What is Touch for Health?

"To empower ourselves and others to be responsible for developing self-awareness, health and well-being through TFH."

Touch for Health® Kinesiology (TFHK ) is a system of balancing posture, attitude and life energy for greater comfort, vitality and enjoyment of your life.
Touch for Health falls under the branch of alternative and complementary therapy known as kinesiology - systems of healing that use manual muscle bio-feedback to determine which stimuli stress the body and how that stress can be decreased.
The Touch for Health model does not treat or diagnose symptoms, but works with the energy, lifestyle and aspirations of the client, offering a safe and effective way to maintain health, enhance well-being and upgrade performance.
Touch for Health is the most widely used system of kinesiology in the world.
It is recognised and respected as a fundamental training for other kinesiology systems as well as a healing modality in it's own right.

Touch For Health Kinesiology can be can be easily learned by anyone (with a little practice!), without any prior knowledge of muscles, physiology, vital energy, meridians, etc.

History

Touch for Health is a synthesis of ancient knowledge of the Chinese acupuncture meridians and techniques derived from chiropractic, naturopathy, osteopathy, and even person-centered counseling, including acupressure, a variety of touch reflexes, meridian tracing, nutrition and a variety of mind-body techniques for balancing the subtle energies while focusing on meaningful, personal goals.

Touch For Health Kinesiology has its roots in the work of Detroit chiropractor, George Goodheart . Dr Goodheart began using muscle testing to evaluate muscle strength or injury in relation to postural imbalances, but soon found that muscles dramatically improve function in response to a variety of touch reflexes, including acupuncture points and meridians. Goodheart developed a system called Applied Kinesiology which he shared with physicians who are licensed to diagnose (medical doctors, chiropractors, osteopaths, dentists, etc.) and assistants under their supervision.

John Thie, D.C. , one of the early promoters of Goodheart’s work and the founding chairman of Goodheart’s International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK) had the vision of sharing this information with the wider population so they could learn to help themselves. Dr. Thie released the book Touch for Health in 1973, and developed the Touch for Health training program which has been administered by the IKC since 1990. TFH was designed to empower every person to become active in the creation, maintenance and restoring of their own health and well-being, and to allow families to enhance their self-care.

"I treasure the Touch for Health Synthesis. I see it as a candle lighting others the way to better health and living. I believe each of us holds such a candle, perhaps as yet unlit,that can serve to guide those we cherish safely toward a more abundant life.
I hope through Touch for Health, to pass my light along to you, so your candle in turn may illuminate the way for others."

Touch For Health Module 1

  • This workshop gives you a strong base to build your kinesiology tools onproviding techniques to balance the 14 muscle/meridian/ organ relationships - for improved postural balance, and improved health and performance. You will learn how to muscle test and you will learn a range of correction techniques;

  • Auricular exercise – decreases neck and shoulder tension and increases sensory input.

  • Visual inhibition – may improve eyesight and help people who fall asleep or feel tired while reading.

  • Emotional Stress Release – coping techniques in times of stress.

  • You will learn spinal reflexes, neuro- lymphatic reflexes, neuro vascular reflexes to balance the muscles and meridian systems.

  • Cross Crawl for Fun – the exercise helps integrate left and right brain hemispheres and improve concentration and learning;

  • Surrogate Testing – enabling balances on younger children;

  • Foods for Strengthening – using food to strengthen muscles;

  • Posture Awareness – significant changes can be made to posture by completing the 14 muscle balance; and

Touch For Health Module 2

Level 2 You will add to your basic skills and learn:

  •  Chinese Law of Five elements, Yin/Yang concept.

  • Meridian massage, acute pain relief techniques, balancing the body clock for jetlag & shiftwork.

  • You will upgrade your muscle testing skills by learning a further 14 indicator muscles & their relationship to the organ & meridian function & new balancing options.

  • This level introduces you to the Law of Five Elements and how to rebalance the acupuncture system with a powerful non-invasive One Point Five Element balance. There are no needles involved, just gentle touch and connecting with the emotional context to upgrade your performance/behaviour in the future.

Touch For Health Module 3

This workshop will integrate your current skills

  • Learn 14 new muscles.

  • You will learn how to combine your muscle testing skills with the energetic Law of the Five elements of Chinese acupuncture.

  • Discover how to detect and clear the emotional blocks involved with the goal you are balancing.

  • Learn additional techniques such as the powerful emotional Colour Balance and ways to deal with past trauma and stress.

  • Correction methods for gaits, postural problems and reactive muscle resets for enhanced performance.

  • Pain tapping with pulse checks.

  • Balancing for past trauma to improve posture & facilitate cellular healing

  • Learn how to detect & correct over- & under-energies in the meridian system. Muscle reactivity can be triggered by unfamiliar movements or prolonged exercise or work activities, abrupt muscle contraction (e.g. during a car accident or to prevent a fall, prolonged emotional stress). Immediate pain relief and greatly improved posture are the result of clearing reactive muscle patterns.
